Judy Dirks Recognized As Community Star

For the sixth year, Panhandle State Bank has announced its Community Star. This year's honor goes to Judy Dirks of Bonners Ferry.
According to Carol Julian, Branch Manager, the Community Star program recognizes an individual or a group who makes a significant contribution to the community.
"Usually, this person volunteers and takes the lead in community projects but isn't looking for recognition," said Carol.
Each year, nomination forms are made available to the community. Nominators write a brief paragraph about their candidate and say why they think the person should receive the Community Star Award. A committee of community members reviews the nominations and chooses one person to receive the honor.
Carol said that Panhandle State Bank contributes $1,000 to a non-profit organization or charity that is chosen by the Community Star. Additionally, the Community Star receives a beautiful crystal award and a bouquet of flowers at a reception.
This year, the reception was held at Bear Creek Steak and Pasta House. Judy chose the Boundary County Domestic Violence and Youth Crisis Hotline to receive the $1,000 donation.
"From the bank standpoint, it is nice for us to recognize a community member who doesn't seek recognition," emphasized Carol. "The reception is a night of friends and family to talk about the good things this person has done. It's a great feeling for us to be able to do something like this as well as recognize the charity. Judy is so much like a star - she's bright and shiny but you'll never hear her. That's why this is such a great program."
