Dolores Mae Baker passed away at her home on November 1, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held on November 7, 2009 in the Free Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry. Burial will be held in the Grandview Cemetery.
Dorie blessed us with her presence on May 15, 1937. She was born at home in the country at Moyie Springs, ID. Her parents were Ruby LaFountain and Robert Chappell.
Dorie married Gene on November 20, 1953. They made their home in Bonners Ferry where they raised their three children, David Eugene born in 1955, Sherri Ann born 1956 and Toni Marie born in 1959. Dorie worked for IGA, Dr. Coram, WI Forest Products as well as attorneys Randy Day and Pete Wilson. Dorie also graduated from the Bonners Ferry Hospital as an LPN.
Dorie and Gene loved to travel in their motor home with a group of friends that called themselves "The Dirty Dozen." However, the love for her family and the blessing of seven grandchildren, Jeremy Mitchel Baker, Christopher Ray, Brittany Raeann, Nicholas Ryan Schave, Duane, Tyson Eugene and Chanalea Lorrae Pennock, brought them home often.
Family was everything to Dorie and she didn't want to miss a moment of their lives. The love she showed to all of us will carry on for generations. So many have been a part of our extended family and are blessed to know the love and devotion Dorie showed to all.
A few of Dorie's accomplishments included working for the Bonners Ferry Blood Bank, the All Class Reunion, member of the WHS Women's Clinical Trials and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, quilting and reading.
If we could ask Dorie today what was her greatest accomplishment and joy through her life, without a thought she would say it is her family. Dorie's passing is our loss but her journey has just began. Dorie was at peace and ready for God to call her home.
Surviving Dorie are her son David and grandson Jeremy (Kacee) Baker, daughter Sherri Ann (Greg) Carter, Christopher, Brittany and Nicholas Schave, daughter Toni Marie (Larry) Pennock, son Tyson (Liz) and great grandson Isaiah Pennock, Chanalea Pennock and great-grandson Layne, granddaughter Jennifer (Matthew) Brakeman, sister Sharon (Steve) Bruno, brothers Ron and Mick Chappell, Gary (Jan) Mercer, sister-in-law Carol Pluid, cousin and best friend Marla (Gary) Bohne as well as many loving nieces and nephews dear to her heart.
Preceding her in death were beloved husband Gene, grandson Duane Pennock, mother Ruby LaFountain, father Robert Chappell, brothers Don and Jimmy Mercer and Marvin Chappell, brother-in-law Buster Pluid and grandmother Viola Kestler. Many more were there to welcome her home.
