Shook Twins Set To Light Up The Fire Hall

Laurie and Katelyn Shook, better known around the region as the Shook Twins, are bringing their eclectic show to Bonners Ferry at 7 p.m. Friday, November 19, in the Bonners Ferry Fire Hall in a performance sponsored by the Bonners Ferry Friends of the Arts.

The twins, originally from Sandpoint and whose parents, Dan and Patty Shook, taught at Bonners Ferry High School for several years in the mid 1980s to the early 1990s, have been making music together since childhood, and have been on the road since 2008, touring steadily throughout Idaho, California, Utah, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana, opening or performing with such musicians as Ryan Adams, Mason Jennings, Michelle Shocked and many more, and taking time out to release two CDs, "You Can Have the Rest," in February, 2008, and "Live in the Shop," in June, 2009.

The Shook Twins have honed a progressive folk sound, with Katelyn playing the guitar, slide, glockenspiel, and mandolin and Laurie playing the banjo, guitar, beatbox, djembe and ocarina, with both combining in "twin" harmony in a show described as lighthearted and energetic.

Opening for the Shook Twins will be local pianist and vocalist Gabriel Feller, who won the Friends of the Arts Battle of the Musicians in their season opening performance last fall. The event will be catered by Jill's and food, beer and wine will be available.

Tickets are $10 per person, and they're available at Mountain Mike's, 267-3748, Bonners Books, 267-2622, and at the door.
