Boundary County School District #101 has announced a vacancy for Zone #5 School Trustee, representing the Naples area. Declarations of Candidacy Forms are now available at the Boundary County School District Office, 6577 Main St. Suite 101, and are due by April 17, 2009. The annual school trustee election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2009.
Candidates for School Trustee must be at least 18 years of age, a citizen of the USA, a qualified voter and a resident of Zone #5, Naples. According to the Idaho School Boards Association, candidates should also have a broad interest in, or be willing to learn, the intricacy and complexity of school operations including school district finance, student-employee-community relationships, as well as curriculum, awareness and sensitivity. Wise planning for the future needs of today's students, understanding the complexity of contemporary education, and being able to defend the School Board's philosophy and goals are also desirable. Candidates should be aware that they may have to invest many hours in order to discharge a trustee's responsibilities. A candidate should also be aware that, as a state official, he or she has the responsibility to all the children in the state, not solely those in Boundary County.
Trustees are obligated to attend board meetings regularly, periodically visit schools, and attend training sessions in order to keep informed of current education trends.
The Zone #5 elected trustee will take office at the annual school board meeting scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2009.
