Badgers Sweep Wildcats In Baseball

The Badgers erupted for 28 total hits and 21 runs in a sweep over Intermountain League Opponent Kellogg Wildcats.
In the first game, senior Casey Nelson (2-0) won his second game of the year pitching five strong innings and junior Alex Kellogg pitched the final two innings in relief. Nelson and Kellogg combined to allow only four hits in the game. Nelson held the Wildcats hitless through the first four and a third innings until Kyle Kenser hit a run scoring double off the fence. The only other hit off Nelson came in the fifth inning.
Bonners Ferry struck for one run in the first inning when Aaron Hoisington reached on an error from the second baseman and later scored on a passed ball. The Badgers added another run in the third inning when Zack Roberts started off with a single to left and later scored on Robby Burns RBI double. In the fourth inning, Bonners Ferry erupted for eight runs on five hits with Greg Taggart starting the inning off with a single to left. After Alek Lopez walked, Aaron Hoisington loaded the based reaching on an error from the pitcher. CJ Erickson hit a two-run single scoring Taggart and Lopez. Zach Maas later hit a RBI single scoring Hoisington and Casey Nelson hit a two-run single scoring Erickson and Burns. Alex Kellogg then ripped a RBI single to score Maas and Lopez came up again in the inning and scored Nelson.
Kellogg came back and scored three runs in the fifth inning and a final run in the seventh inning. The Badgers finished with 12 hits; Roberts, Nelson and Lopez each getting two hits. Every batter in the line up contributed with a hit in the game.
Game Two saw the Badgers start off with three runs and five hits in the first inning on their way to an 11 - 4 victory. Greg Taggart got his first win of the season pitching three strong innings. Junior Zack Roberts pitched in relief giving up one run on just three hits.
Aaron Hoisington got things started with a single followed by a RBI double from Zack Roberts. Robby Burns then scored Roberts on a RBI single. After Greg Taggart hit a single, Casey Nelson scored Burns with a RBI single. The Badgers added two more runs in the third inning when Roberts reached on an error and Burns got his second consecutive hit. Taggart then stroked a single scoring both Roberts and Burns.
With the Badgers leading 5 - 4 in the top of the fifth inning, Bonners Ferry added four more runs as CJ Erickson started the inning off with his second Home Run of the season. Roberts then lined a single to left followed by Burns' double. Nelson singled in Roberts and Alex Kellogg hit a double to deep left to score Burns and Nelson. The Badgers added two more runs in the seventh inning when Nelson hit an RBI double and Kellogg hit his second double of the game scoring Nelson.
Hoisington, Taggart, Lopez and Kellogg each had three hits on the day while Roberts and Burns had four hits. Captain Casey Nelson ended the day with five hits, four RBI's and three runs scored. Bonners Ferry (9-5 overall, 4-3 league) plays at Timberlake on Saturday.
