Kootenai River Run Set For June 13

The 2009 Kootenai River Run will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 13. The run will again offer two distances, a 5K and a 10K. Both courses begin and end at the Boundary County Fairgrounds. The courses will be the same as they have been for several years. For those new to the area, both courses cross the Kootenai River and run through the Marx Subdivision. The 5K course returns to town while the 10K course continues out into the Kootenai Valley, turning around on the Mission Road before Tribal Headquarters and returning to the Fairgrounds.

The Bonners Ferry Rotary Club is again assisting with the organization of the run. Forest Capital, The Cornman, and Boulder Creek Academy are sponsoring this year’s run by covering a portion of the cost of T-shirts. Embroidered T-shirts will likely be available for all runners, even those registering on race day. The entry fee for the run and a T-shirt is $17. In case a shirt is not available for a late entrant, or if one already has a closet full of shirts, a no-shirt option is offered for $10. Custom crafted trophies will be awarded to the overall male and female winners of each race. Ribbons will be given to the first, second, and third place finishers of each age class. Door prizes donated by area merchants will be presented by drawing during the awards ceremony. A final Grand Prize will also be drawn--a $100 gift certificate for the purchase of a new pair of running shoes.

Net proceeds will be used to provide two $500 college scholarships to graduating Bonners Ferry High School runners. Any excess income goes to supporting the high school cross-country program.

We urge people of all ability levels to participate. If you are not a runner, a walker can complete the 5K in about the same amount of time that it takes a runner to cover the 10K. Please come and support this community event and enjoy a Saturday morning out with friends.
