Safeway Gets a Head Start

For the Head Start pre-schoolers, even a simple trip to the grocery store can be an educational experience. Under the supervision of their dedicated teachers, the children learned about the grocery store from their guide, Brett Brown, Safeway Manager. Progressing from the pharmacy, the produce area, into the back rooms where all the "real work" goes on behind the scenes, to the dairy cooler and the meat locker, the children learned about the components of the store in a fun way. The demonstration of the "box squisher" was a big hit. The kids even took a vote and the outcome was unanimous: they all love candy.

The Children, Parents And Teachers Of Head Start Toured Safeway Under The Guidance Of Brett Brown.

Teacher Troi Morris said, "I think it really helps the kids bond with their community to get out and meet the people who run the businesses."

Onto the sales floor for a peek inside the butcher area and then to the check-out stands to meet the cheerful checkers, the children picked up their parting gift of a goodie bag containing, among other things, sunglasses. With an enthusiastic thanks to Brett, the children donned their new sunglasses and held hands for their walk back to their school.

Brett said, "Each year we enjoy doing this. It's a lot of fun for all of us."
