Health Career Internships Conclude Successfully

Interns From Left: Michelle Thomas, Treasurer, Victoria Saens, Secretary, Keera Christenson, President, Sarah Clark, Activities.

The Boundary County School District Workforce Investment Act (WIA) sponsored a high school Health Professions Internship program which ended May 22. Student interns worked at the hospital, Kaniksu Health Services and the Restorium. The interns and the school district would like to thank these supporting sites and their staff for taking the interns under their wings and sharing their time and insights into health careers.

Overall, the partnerships were successful; they allowed the interns to gain experience and confidence in their pursuit of careers in health care and human services. Special thanks to Ann Coughlin, Human Resources Director at the hospital, for her coordination of the hospital interns and to all staff and department heads. Thank you also to Elaine Atkins at Kaniksu Health Services for CPR/First aid training and coordination at the clinic.

The intern's service club participated in fundraising for their club. Additionally, the Hospital Health Fair was their service project. These students demonstrated growing maturity over the course of the program and exhibited many special qualities that will be essential in their careers.

Congratulations to the success of the interns in their accomplishments and their future endeavors. For more information about future WIA opportunities, please contact Summer MacDonald at the Department of Labor at 267-4604.
