Lawn Mower Races Thrill Crowd

Competition was fierce and enthusiasm was high at the third annual 'Pass in the Grass' lawn mower races held Saturday, June 6 at the fairgrounds.

Competition Was Fierce At The Lawn Mower Races.

According to spectator Jeff Ward, "There were a couple of good crashes. It was three hours of kickin' redneck fun."

The hay bale-lined, peanut shaped, dirt track was a fast surface for the helmeted competitors who rode lawnmowers propelled with everything from a Yamaha YZ80 engine to souped up lawn mower engines. There were 31 races, which gave the crowd plenty of action and lots of excuses for cheering. The beer garden enjoyed thriving business, and, in one spectator's words, "It was so loud in the stands that you couldn't hear yourself think."
