All Summer: Teen Clothing Drive

Quest House Youth Ministries will be collecting new and gently used clothing for teens starting now until the beginning of next school year. We are looking for boys' and girls' clothes in all styles and sizes for teenagers. All clothing will be given away at no cost to local teens in the community who are in need of new clothes for school. If you have clothes to donate, please feel free to drop them off at the Springs of Living Water Free Methodist Church located at 6957 LaBrosse Road or call 610-1116 to have your donation picked up.


August 1: All School Reunion

If you ever attended school in Boundary County, ID, or if you've ever had reason to enjoy our community, you're invited to attend! The schedule includes 9am-4pm Sign in at the Boundary County Fairgrounds, 3pm official gathering and class photos, 6pm program and dinner at the Fairgrounds Pavilion and the Main Street Dance with Rhythm Dawgs at 9pm. Additional events potentially on the schedule include a Classic Car Show (info: 267-3283), Horseshoe Competition (info: 267-4128) and a Golf Tournament at Mirror Lake (info: 267-3100).


August 1: Moose Creek Fly Out from the Airport

We are going to be having a fly out to Moose Creek. Be at the airport at 8am if you would like to go. It will be an overnight camping trip if you want to stay or you can fly home that evening. Bring food, drinks, snacks and stories! It should be a day of fun!


August 5-28: Robert Bissett Solo Art Show:

Showcasing Robert's stunning oil and acrylic paintings at the Redtail Gallery located at Oak St. & Sixth Ave. in Sandpoint. Hours: Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday: 11am to 5pm, Friday: noon to 7pm.


August 5: Story Time at the Library:

Boundary County Library's next story time theme is "Cowboys" on August 5 at 10:30am and 1:30pm.

August 5: Recycling Day:

Our monthly Recycle Day will be at the Far North / NIC parking lot. We will be there from 9am to 3pm and will be accepting newspaper, magazines, office paper, tin cans, aluminum cans, cardboard, glass and #1 and #2 plastics. Please remember that your plastic containers must be rinsed out. If you have any questions please call the Solid Waste office at 267-3812.

August 5 - 7: Summer Vacation Bible School at Crossroads Chapel:

Crossroads Chapel will again host another great Vacation Bible School. This year the theme will be "The Wildwood Forest," designed for kids from four to 12 years of age, from 9am to 11:20am. As always, Crossroads provides this program free to children; however, donations will be happily accepted. Registration is required at the door at 8:50am. Crossroads Chapel is located just off Hwy 95 at 6525 Jackson St. Call 267-5266 for more information.

August 7: Free Ricky Skaggs Concert:

Mountain Springs Church will be sponsoring a free concert featuring Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder on August 7 at 7pm at the Boundary County Fairgrounds.

August 7: Antique Tractor Club Meeting and Ride:

The Antique Tractor Club will meet at Ken Irons' farm at 12 noon. A ride around beautiful Paradise Valley will begin at 2pm. Potluck style barbecue will follow the ride. For more information, call Dave Wattenbarger at 267-7468.

August 8: Bulls of Terror:

The Selkirk Saddle Club is sponsoring a "Bulls of Terror" event at 7pm (same day as the Swish) at the fairgrounds. Adults: $10, Kids 6 to 12: $5, under 5: free.

August 8-9: 2nd Annual BF Swish:

The streets will be packed with basketball players from all over the region. Come down and watch or register to join in the fun. (www.bfswish.com) For more information, to volunteer or to sponsor, call "Mr. Swish" Brett Brown at 946-8650 or email fish3286@live.com.

August 10: Vacation Bible School:

Calling All Heroes! Bonners Ferry United Methodist Church will host Vacation Bible School for all children entering pre-school through fifth grade on August 10 through August 14 from 9am to noon. Parents or caregivers should arrive with their child/children on their first day in order to register. All are welcome. For more information, contact the Church at 267-2343.

August 10: Fairest of Fair Nominations Due:

Nomination forms for "Fairest of the Fair" are available in local businesses around town, as well as in the fair book. Submit nominations to City Hall or the Fair Office by noon.

August 11: Soccer Signups:

Boys and girls ages 4-14 are invited to sign up for soccer teams for the Boundary County Youth Rec. program. Registration costs $20. Registration will be at the fairgrounds or you may register at the BF Swish on August 8. For information, visit www.boundarycountyid.org or call Angela Hittle at 290-1068. Coaches and Team Sponsors are still needed!

August 11: Keep Idaho Working:

Representative Walt Minnick will be hosting a forum titled "Keep Idaho Working". Representatives from seven federal agencies will join business leaders from all over the state to discuss opportunities for obtaining federal contracts. This event will take place in Boise, but you can participate through video conferencing at the Boundary Community Hospital Boardroom from 8am to 11am. Refreshments will be served. Seating is limited; please RSVP to Anita at 208-818-7498.

August 12: Snakeman at the Library:

Come experience Brian Murray, aka "Snakeman" and meet his pets, Boo the Python and Flower the Corn Snake, at the library from 11am to 12pm.

August 14: Volleyball Season Begins at BFHS:

The Bonners Ferry High School volleyball season is just around the corner. BFHS Volleyball runs three teams: C-Squad, Junior Varsity and Varsity. Practices begin August 14. Practice will run from 8:30am to 11:30am and 5:30pm to 7:30pm. All high school girls planning to participate must have all paperwork turned in on or before the first day of practice. Participants will need a current physical, proof of insurance and code of conduct. If players missed the organizational meeting, paperwork can be picked up at Bonners Ferry High School, Monday through Thursday from 8am until 2pm or call Janis Tucker at 267-2044.

August 14 - 16: Bonners Ferry Summer Youth Theater Presents Grease:

The last Summer Youth Theater production of the season will be performed at 7pm on August 14, 15 and at 2pm on August 16 in Becker Auditorium. Grease is a high energy musical, packed with dancing and that great fifties music. Concessions sold during intermission will be donated to the McLean Family. Tickets will be available at the door, adults $8 and students $5.

August 14 - 16: Spinning Threads Weekend Retreat:

The Spinning Threads Retreat is a coming together of various modalities and cultures, sharing in the Common Thread of Universal Consciousness of Creator Source and all the ways of understanding. Through relaxation, healing and teaching, shared in an environment of open minds with respect for each other and the varied ways of understanding, all in a drug and alcohol-free environment. Enjoy a day or a full weekend of spiritual merriment and enlightenment. The Retreat will be held at 90 Silver Springs Road in Moyie Springs. Families and singles are welcome. On-site free camping by RSVP. Call 267-7810 to reserve a camping spot or for more information.

August 15: Men's Club Championship Golf Tournament:

Mirror Lake Golf Course is holding the annual Men's Club Tournament. Call 267-5314 for more information or to register.

August 17: Kootenai Valley Resource Initiative Meeting Notice:

As discussed at our last meeting, we will use this opportunity to put up the KVRI Fair booth. Plan to meet at 6pm at the fairgrounds on the slab for grilled burgers - then help with putting up the booth. Bring a lawn chair and a stapler with extra staples if you've got one handy. We plan to finish by 8 pm. Please RSVP either by email or phone call to Kristin or Patty by August 14 so we know how many to plan food for. Any questions, call Patty at 267-3519.

August 18 - 19: Entries for the Fair Accepted:

Entries for all departments in the fair will be accepted at the Exhibit Hall from 5pm to 7pm on August 18 and from 7am to 11am on August 19.

August 19: Summer Reading Finale at the Library:

"Be Creative" Summer Reading Finale (instead of our regular story time) will be held from 1pm to 3pm. Stories, crafts and games! We will be outside in the Library park weather permitting, so please wear sunscreen.

August 19 - 22: Boundary County Fair:

Titled 'Where We Gather', the Boundary County Fair will be held August 19-22 at the Boundary County Fairgrounds.

August 19: Phoenix Project Pool Party:

All teens are invited to a FREE pool party and picnic at the City Pool from 4pm to 7pm. Food, friends and fun!

August 20: Free Dinner at BridgeWay Assembly of God:

BridgeWay Assembly of God invites you to join us for a free dinner at 6pm. Address: 66027 Hwy 2, east of Three-Mile Junction towards Moyie Springs.


August 22: Green Festival:

The Bonners Ferry Farmers' Market is presenting a Green Festival, featuring free 'Blues' music with Ken LaBarbara, solar displays, 12-volt shower displays, fire safe home information and more.

August 22: Team Thunderstruck Showing at the Rex:

Extreme Snowmobile film showcasing Team Thunderstruck will be playing at the Rex at 1pm. $5 per ticket, children under six are free.

August 24: Dog Training Seminar:

Second Chance Animal Adoption and Mikkel Becker Shannon will present a dog training seminar focused on how to socialize your dog with people, pets and children. Class takes place from 6 to 8pm at the Visitor Center. There is a $10 fee. Registration will be available at Second Chance Thrift Store.

August 25: Dog Training Seminar:

Second Chance Animal Adoption and Mikkel Becker Shannon will present a dog training seminar on common dog behavior problems and their immediate solutions. Class will take place at Second Chance Thrift Store from 6 to 8pm and costs $10. Registration will be available at Second Chance Thrift Store.

August 26: Creating and Maintaining Beautiful Flower Arrangements:

Shelly and Terry from Sugar Plum Floral will present techniques for creating and maintaining beautiful arrangements from your garden. Bring your own container and pruning shears to create an arrangement to take home. Flowers will be donated by local gardeners for this class. Class will be held at the GROW! Community Garden on Buchanan Street near Trinity Lutheran Church. Please register in advance so we have an accurate count of flowers needed. To register, please phone the Extension Office at 267-3235. There is no fee for this class.

August 27: Swish Volunteer Meeting:

Anyone and everyone is invited to help plan next year's Swish. We need everyone's good ideas, positive energy and participation. The meeting will be at 7pm at the Visitor Center. Refreshments will be served courtesy of Safeway.

August 28 - 30: Amish Singing and Yodeling:

Your Amish neighbors invite everyone to attend a performance showcasing a cappella singing and yodeling, sharing God's word, with some music by Mt. Hall Church and skits played by Amish Group. We want to become friends with you. Come as you are. Homemade cookies and coffee following. Everyone welcome. Free admission, come and enjoy, 7pm at Memorial Hall at the fairgrounds.

August 29: Law Enforcement and Friends Open Benefit Golf Tournament:

Sponsored by the Bonners Ferry Border Patrol station, proceeds from this tournament will benefit Bonner Community Hospice. Play begins at 1pm at Mirror Lake Golf Course. Entry fee is $50 per person which includes green fees and dinner. Contact Rhonda Vogl at 267-2734 for more information and to register.

August 29: Harvest Celebration Dance:

Sponsored by GROW!, this FREE dance will take place on Main Street between 6pm and midnight. Four different bands will play and there will be barbecue available by the GROW! group on-going throughout the evening.
