November 14, 2021: The Bonners Ferry Gun Club is busy again as practice is now in full swing. The Claybusters Trap Team is ramping up for the January Leagues, shooting competition-style each week, and the Open Class is still warming up to being back shooting on a weekly basis again, and mostly coming out to shoot for fun.

Duke’s Claybusters on a typical Saturday practice

The Duke’s Claybusters got a slow start from the 16-yard line. Torsten Conover led the Claybusters with a 23/25, followed by Ryan Carelli and Wyatt McDonald, each with 22. Isaac Bliss shot a 21 and Dillon McLeish scored 20. Cassidy Underhill was the top female Claybuster in the 16-yard with a 19/25 closely followed by Melanie Campbell with an 18. We also currently have two Middle School students on the team so far this year, Noah Nichols and Trenton Myers. Overall combined scores were Wyatt – 41/50, Torsten 38, Ryan 37, Dillon 36, Isaac 35, Noah 33, Melanie 32, and Trenton 21. To top it off, Coach Ron Campbell shot a 25/25.

For the Open Class, we also had a nice turnout despite rainy conditions. Top shooters were Ron Campbell and Dave Jacobson with 24/25, followed by Jerry Schilling with 22/25, Bill Bustillos who shot 21, and Kristie Campbell who shot 20/25. Everyone else shot a 19/25 for the day. During the Annie Oakley’s, Kristie Campbell and Dave Jacobson each won two times, and Jerry Schilling and Dean Nelson each won one time. Great shooting everyone!

We are now in our winter hours. Claybuster’s shoot Saturdays at 10 am and Open Class shooting is Sundays at 10 am. Tryouts for the Duke’s Claybusters  School Trapshooting Team are still open at this time.
